CNYAPG 2025 Rock Quarries Field Trip

Base fee:
  • Early registration closes 9/19/2025
  • Reserved for a Course Instructor only
  • For non-members of CNYAPG that are not students; early registration ends September 19th.
  • Students only- NO PDH's awarded
    Professors and faculty advisors can use this option to register multiple students at the same time.

Early Registration closes September 19, 2025 and Late Registration closes September 26, 2025.

Limit = 50 participants (does not include students riding in one or more college vans).

All registrants will be required to review and sign a separate release/liability waiver for each quarry in order to enter that quarry.  

PDH certificate for 6 hours - $60. Attendees desiring PDH credits must pay for PDH credits at the time of registration (see the check box on your registration invoice). 

Course Instructors:

Jon Fox, P.G. (Fox Professional Geology, PLLC and SUNY Oswego Department of Atmospheric and Geological Sciences)

Amanda Campbell, Ph.D. (SUNY Oswego Department of Atmospheric and Geological Sciences)

Field Trip Stops Include:

1. Heidelberg Material's Quarry (dolostone) near Middleville, New York (Cambrian Little Falls Fm.), in the heart of Herkimer "Diamonds" country;

2. T.H. Kinsella's Worlock Quarry (limestone) near Canastota, New York (Upper Silurian Rondout through Lower Devonian Deansboro formations), with a fascinating array of strata and fossils; and

3. Syracuse Sand and Gravel's (Riccelli Enterprises) Brickyard Road Mine (shale) near Warners, New York (Upper Silurian Vernon Fm.), featuring rich, western-like color hues and chromas.

Arrive at Parratt-Wolff at 8:00 a.m. We will leave the meeting point at 8:30 a.m. Participants will be transported from the meeting point to all stops on a chartered bus (no personal vehicles are allowed). The only exception allowed is students riding in an official college van.

We will not be stopping anywhere for lunch; all participants are responsible to bring their own legal, non-alcoholic and non-drug food and beverages.
